Description
A wagon full of milk cans stands in the foreground of a windmill at Zaanse Schans, a neighborhood in the Dutch town of Zaandam, near Amsterdam. Historic windmills and distinctive green wooden houses were relocated here to recreate the look of an 18th/19th-century village. The Zaans Museum has regional costumes, model windmills and interactive exhibits on chocolate making. Artisan workshops demonstrate rare handicrafts such as wooden clog carving, barrel making and pewter casting. If you wish to get an accurate impression of life in Holland in the 17th and 18th centuries, visit the Zaanse Schans. In this region, you will see authentic houses, windmills, a tinware factory, a cheese and dairy factory and other crafts. Both inside and out, the old Zaan style is visible.
