Description
The road to Mepkin Abbey, a Trappist monastery near Moncks Corner, South Carolina, is long and beautiful, lined with old trees draped in Spanish moss. In 1949, twenty-nine monks of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (Trappists) came from Gethsemani, Kentucky, to found Mepkin Abbey. Today, the Abbey and Mepkin Gardens are open to the public on a daily basis with few exceptions.
